COUNSELING AND MENTAL HEALTH EXPERIENCE
Since 1969, Dr. Agigian has maintained a private practice, currently focusing on serving those struggling with test taking anxiety and those distressed by the aftermath of traumatic events.
At the V.A. Medical Center in Palo Alto (1967-1975) Dr. Agigian directed several outpatient psychiatric programs and taught couples and family therapy at the Family Study Unit. One of the programs was copied by over 100 mental health agencies nationwide and generated presentations at the national conferences of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association and the Veterans Administration Division of Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences.
Dr. Agigian and a colleague later published a book, The Community Training Center, based on this program.
He was Chief, Social Work Service, at the V.A. Medical Center in Martinez (1975-1980).
Dr. Agigian counseled adults at the V.A. Drug Dependency Treatment Program in Berkeley (1980-1985). During this time he also earned his doctorate at U.C. Berkeley.
He served as Director of Catholic Counseling Service of the East Bay (1986-1989).
In 1990 Dr. Agigian became Executive Director of Jewish Family and Children's Service of the East Bay.
At the Oakland Vet Center (1996, 1998-2001) Dr. Agigian specialized in the treatment of anxiety disorders, primarily post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
From 1996 to 1997, Dr. Agigian was the Director of Day Treatment Programs at Rubicon Programs, Inc. in Richmond, CA.
From 2003 to 2004 Dr. Agigian served as a clinical consultant at Family Service Agency of San Francisco.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCEDr. Agigian taught counseling methods and other subjects at U.C. Berkeley, Washington University in St. Louis, the University of San Francisco, California State University at San Jose and at the Family Study Unit of the V.A. Medical Center in Palo Alto.
He provided on-site clinical supervision for graduate and post-graduate students and interns in psychology, social work and marriage and family therapy for U.C. Berkeley, the California School of Professional Psychology, the Wright Institute, California State U. at San Francisco and the College of Notre Dame.
From 1975 to 1980 Dr. Agigian was Director of the Social Work Department at the V.A. Medical Center, Martinez, CA.From 1986 to 1990 he directed Catholic Counseling Service of the East Bay, Oakland, Ca.From 1990 to 1995 Dr. Agigian was the Executive Director of Jewish Family and Children's Services of the East Bay.Dr. Agigian was an in-house management consultant for Family Service Agency of San Francisco from 2001-2002.
